Filesystem based APIs are not a good fit for the web. They are low level implementation details that should be hidden from app level and from end users. The web should rather have some "content management" API instead. The UA can map to whatever the actual storage is.

It's true that lack of web engine competition on iOS is not ideal. It's also likely the last thing preventing a complete takeover of the web by Google. Choose your poison!
Apple's ecosystem is fundamentally maintained by fear and pain. The fear by all developers of Apple crushing their business, and the pain that Apple demonstrates by punishing dissent as they did with Fortnite on iOS, and tried to do with Unreal Engine.
